SOLID CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION
SCDC's pre-cast insulated concrete panel construction is superior to tilt-up concrete construction for several reasons. Our pre-cast insulated concrete panels are created in a factory setting and then transported to the construction site, resulting in fewer errors and better quality control than with tilt-up construction.
Pre-cast panels have greater insulation capabilities than tilt-up, allowing buildings to be more energy efficient. SCDC's pre-cast construction methods result in faster installation time, allowing projects to be completed quicker than those using tilt-up methods while also allowing for better flexibility in design and accommodating a wider range of structural applications.
The main disadvantages of tilt up concrete construction are the need for specialized equipment, the risk of structural failure due to lack of reinforcement, and the increased time and cost involved in erecting and finishing each wall. Because this type of construction requires a large site with plenty of room for movement, it is not well suited to urban or densely populated areas.
Other disadvantages of tilt up concrete construction include its labor-intensive nature, limited design flexibility, potential for cracked panels due to temperature changes because of the inability to control temperatures and humidity, difficulty in providing insulation, additional site work required for flatness, and long curing times. Because tilt-up concrete is also weather-sensitive, and there may be a need for additional protection when the weather turns wet.
Some other common problems encountered with tilt up concrete construction include water seepage, inadequate anchorage, and inconsistent curing. Structural stability can be compromised if formwork or bracing is not correctly designed and erected prior to pouring the concrete. Uneven slab thickness and misalignment of panels can also cause issues with tilt up construction.
Since our pre-cast insulated concrete panels are already manufactured offsite and then shipped to the construction site for assembly, it requires fewer workers onsite, resulting in lower labor costs and greater safety on the job. SCDC's pre-cast panels also have fewer connections, so they can be constructed more quickly than tilt up construction.
