In addition to his deep expertise in real estate, construction, and finance, he has successfully owned and operated ventures in landscape design, advertising, business consulting, and even restaurant hospitality.

The Man Behind the Mission
A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Odell has called Houston home since 1982, graduate from Eisenhower High School and attended the University of Houston Downtown and Central campuses. While his professional life is one of intense focus, his personal life is grounded in family and simple pleasures. He is a proud father to seven children—four daughters and three sons—and a doting grandfather to five grandchildren. This deep sense of family is the "why" behind his relentless focus on building a legacy.
When he does step away from his work, he enjoys shooting pool, bowling, and following Houston's sports teams. A huge fan of sci-fi and epic series like Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, he also has a deep appreciation for music, with a love for Prince, Michael Jackson, and the 90s hip-hop that traces back to his Memphis roots.
When he does step away from his work, he enjoys shooting pool, bowling, and following Houston's sports teams. A Foundation of Faith & Service
Mr. Abdur-Raheem's commitment to community is deeply rooted in his personal journey of faith. In 1995, he embraced orthodox Islam as a member of the then American Muslim Society under the leadership of Imam W. D. Mohammed, under the mentorship of Imam Qasim Ahmed, a leading figure in Houston's faith community. This path led him to legally change his name from Odell Bennett Jr. to Odell Abdur-Raheem, fully embracing an identity tied to his principles of service.
In the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy, he worked tirelessly alongside his mentor in interfaith councils, building bridges of peace and understanding between Houston's Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities. This work in public service grew, and he was eventually promoted to the role of Assistant Imam. In this capacity, he became a voice for positive change, speaking in prisons to help incarcerated individuals prepare for a better life, hosting local TV and radio shows on interfaith cooperation, and ultimately being elected as a "Regional Imam" by his peers to lead and teach throughout the Southwest.
While he has since "retired" from a formal role as an Imam to pursue his life's purpose through the S.H.A.R.E. mission, his strong faith and Islamic principles of serving humanity remain the unshakable foundation of his work. This is most evident in his ultimate philanthropic goal: as SCDC grows, he plans to implement a blueprint to completely wipe out homelessness—first in Houston, and then in his hometown of Memphis, setting a new standard for what successful corporations can and should do for their communities.
